Maybe you are like me and you just can’t seem to make bacon without grease splattering everywhere. Maybe the pasta boiled over when the doorbell rang and you got roped into talking to your neighbor for longer than you expected.
Perhaps your children or significant other decided to bring you breakfast in bed and conveniently left your recently scrubbed spotless kitchen looking more like a movie set from a gory horror film than an episode of your favorite kitchen remodeling show on TV. Whatever the excuse or occasion, we all know that accidents happen. It’s an unfortunate fact of life, but you need to know how to clean a ceramic cooktop.
It’s a good thing you’re reading this guide on how to clean an induction stove or range because induction cooktop cleaning is far simpler than it is for other types of stoves. Gas stoves seem to have an endless supply of cracks and crevices to scrub, taking a lot of elbow grease to keep them looking spotless.
Electric stoves in our day and age have coils that you usually try to work around if you’re like me, but end up getting frustrated enough to unplug them and remove them completely so you can try to scrub the crud out from underneath them. Glass-ceramic cooktops have a surface that is flat and non-porous. This makes it way easier to clean up, in addition to being a more efficient way to pass heat from the burner to your pot, resulting in higher energy efficiency and cash savings when that electric bill comes around.
The simplest thing to do is to wipe up spills as they occur, instead of letting them sit there and get cooked onto the surface. Just grab your closest soft rag, sponge, paper towel, dish towel, washcloth, or whatever’s handy, and wipe that spill. A damp cloth usually works a little better than a dry one. Sometimes letting water sit on the spill for a few minutes will help it wipe off easier. But no matter how diligent you are in your daily wipe-downs, eventually you will get stuff cooked onto your surface. Then you’ll have to spend an extra 30 seconds to a few minutes on it.
A scraper will greatly aid your induction cooktop cleaning. Lots of ceramic-glass cooktops come with a scraping tool and a little sample size bottle of induction cooktop cleaner these days. If yours didn’t, you can use anything with a straight scraping edge made of metal, like a single razor blade. The paint scraper at your hardware store for a dollar is perfect. Just be careful though no to nick, gouge or scratch your cooktop surface with a blade. Easy does it! Hold the blade of your paint scraper flush with the surface of the stove at a 45 degree angle and cautiously scrape away. You won’t get everything off, but you can get a lot of baked-on food removed this way as well as some water and mineral stains.
After scraping, apply a small amount of cleaner. I can heartily suggest the induction cooktop cleaners I recommend here. Using your soft rag, rub the cleaner over the affected area and scrub it in a little bit. A lot of them will remove extra tough stains if you let them sit there for a few minutes, so feel free to pause at this step and let the chemicals do their magic.
After your cleaner has done its work, buff it off with your damp rag, then dry the surface of your cooktop with a dry rag or paper towel. Now your induction cooktop is cleaner than ever! Wasn’t that simple?
Keep in mind these cream-based cleaners that are designed for your glass-ceramic stovetop will remove the iridescent stains left behind by ammonia-based cleaners like Windex, which I don’t recommend using, and are only mildly abrasive, unlike Comet/Ajax/other abrasive powder cleaners, which I also don’t recommend. Abrasive sponges like Scotch-Brite will also leave small scratches that become unattractive over time. So stick to the cream-based cleaners or simple baking soda and water, and use your soft cloth or a sponge.

But are there some drawbacks too? Well, there are some drawbacks to everything. Some are inherent in the technology. Others may be worked out as new products are developed. This article will discuss both the pros and cons of induction cooking so that you can decide whether it’s an upgrade that you want to make right now or whether you're more comfortable with standard gas or electric.
There are quite a few areas where cooking with magnets (induction) is better than cooking with gas or electricity.
One major pro of this technology is energy efficiency. Induction cooking is energy efficient for a number of reasons. First, the way that heat is generated requires less energy than conduction cooking. Second, the cookware is heated directly, rather than being placed on something that requires energy to be made hot. This means less energy is lost to the surrounding environment.
Induction heating is incredibly fast. Many customer note they can boil water on an induction burner in under two minutes. In addition, these kind of burners have very sensitive temperature controls. It's a snap to adjust the heat exactly how you want it. The cookware heats much more evenly. This means food can go longer without stirring. The recent surge in popularity of this technology is due to a breakthrough over ten years ago that made the ranges significantly cheaper than they had been before. So you can probably expect prices to continue to drop as the technology improves. Also, prices will probably drop as more people buy into induction.
Specific cookware materials are required for induction ranges. These ranges work by generating electric currents from interacting magnetic fields, one in the stovetop, and one in the cookware. This means that cookware must be iron containing for it to work well with induction. You won’t necessarily have to get new cookware. But you will have to check you current cookware works. Fortunately, many manufacturers are making specific induction ready cookware so this isn’t necessarily a huge negative.
Induction cooktops themselves don’t make noise, but some customer report a hum that in fact comes from their cookware. This is particularly true if they are using pots or pans that sandwich layers of aluminium or copper inside stainless steel. Or, it can happen if they have cookware with irregular bottoms or poorly fitting lids. Generally this is a low hum but if you’re sensitive to noise levels it can be annoying.

But it’s still a real investment for real cooking, so it still needs to have the power, features and quality construction to make it worthwhile.
I’ve got a NuWave induction review for you. Overall, the NuWave is quite attractive in shiny black with white and red button outlines and highlights. It’s plenty large, measuring 14.4” x 15.9”. It’s definitely large enough for almost any pot or pan. In fact, for storage, it may be a little on the large size, though at 6.3 pounds it’s still light enough to move easily. The NuWave’s circular design is distinctive though not for everyone.
The LED display on the front features six different preset temperature settings, plus the ability to adjust in increments of 10 degrees Fahrenheit. This is an unparalleled amount of control over temperature, and the adjustments are made very quickly. This technology can adjust the temperature very quickly, and very precisely. Customers report boiling water in about 2 minutes and being able to adjust the temperature almost instantaneously. You’ll love the amount of control you have over your cooking! One of the coolest feature is the ability to program the unit to cook for a certain length of time, and have it automatically shut off when it’s done.
Any kind of cooking you could do with a regular stove you can also do with this model. It will boil, simmer, deep-fry, stir-fry, sauté, steam, sear, slow cook, barbecue, melt, and grill with the rest of them. And it will do so with a lot less energy – 70%-90% less, depending on who’s counting. The smooth ceramic-glass top makes it easy to clean, as well.
One of the nice features of the NuWave is all of the available add-ons such as a griddle and carrying case made specifically for this model.
The NuWave PIC has several pros. Like all induction cooktops, it heats and cools incredibly quickly making speedy meals and cleanup a breeze. The PIC is quite attractive and has all of the standard features you’d expect. Overall, customer NuWave induction cooktop reviews are positive and it’s reasonably priced under $60. The available add-ons are also a plus.
Negatives mostly center on poor quality and customer services. Though overall reviews are good, a relatively small number of customer note quality issues and problems dealing with NuWave customer service. Another complaint is not so much about the product but rather about confusing upsell offers when purchasing via phone. I’d recommend ordering from and dealing directly with Amazon to keep things simple and clear.

Now the main downside is cost; most of these models run at least double the price of standard electric ranges. But, wow, the results will really knock your socks off with oven cooking times decreased by about a quarter, foods evenly cooked and browned whether in the oven or on the stovetop and cooktops that heat up almost instantaneously.
Is it worth it? If you’re like me and love cooking with the absolute best options, then it’s a definite “Yes!” But, there’s a wide range of options and quality out there so first check out my top 5 induction range reviews.
This Frigidaire model is a very popular option for people that want an induction range that is affordable (relative to other induction ranges), easy-to-use and high-quality, all from the legendary Frigidaire brand that created the very first self-contained refrigerator in 1916.
This free standing range boasts the standard convection oven/induction cooktop combo found in most induction ranges but also packs in many features of higher-priced models such as 5 induction elements, a two-hour quick clean cycle and a built-in temperature probe with keep warm settings.
I really love this last one; no more sticking your head near a hot over trying to read the temperature of your roast! With its blend of affordability, features and brand reputation, the Frigidaire is definitely worth a look!
Next up is this lovely slide-in GE Profile model. Like most GE products in my experience, it’s just all-around solid. If you like cooking big meals or lots of dishes simultaneously, then you’ll really like the 5.3 cubic foot oven capacity which is one of the largest on the market, 5 burner top in multiple hob sizes, and warming drawer.
The controls are really intuitive and easy-to-use. If you’re new to convection cooking, it even has an auto recipe conversion feature that will give you the right convection cooking temperature based on your conventional recipe.
Some customers have complained about the low hum at higher power settings, but I’ve found this is true of all induction ranges and more dependent on the cookware than the range itself. The price is a bit higher than the Frigidaire but not expensive by induction range standards. Overall, this is just a solid option all-around and definitely worth considering.
If you’re looking for something a little different and are willing to spend some money for it, then take a good look at this Fisher Paykel freestanding range. You may be unfamiliar with this New Zealand-based brand, but they’re actually a major appliance manufactures with a reputation for innovation and quality.
This model has many nice features such as auto heat reduce and easy-glide oven racks but what really stands out is the distinctly European design. The heavy front dials, as opposed to electronic buttons, really stand out as do the sleek lines.
The only really major negatives in my view are the oven size (the smallest on this list at 3.6 cubic feet) and the cost. But, if you’re looking for style and have the budget, this may be the induction range for you.
This Samsung model is one of the top sellers in the industry and for good reason. It’s just packed with great features. The cooktop has a unique configuration with two 6”, one 7” and one 11” element laid out cleverly so you can really use them all at the same time.
It even has LED lights that light up around your pots, giving that nice gas look without the gas heat. I really like the large Flex-Duo convection oven that allows you to cook two separate dishes at separate temperatures at the same time. Of course, there’s also nice details like a built-in cooking probe, a ball-bearing sliding rack (much easier to get that turkey in and out!) and a warming drawer.
Now on the negative side, it’s more expensive than many of our other picks so it really depends on your budget. Also, some customers have complained about spotty customer service. Overall, though, this model is definitely worth a look if you’re willing to spend a little more.
Rounding out our top 5 is this stylish Electrolux model. To my eye, this is just one of the most attractive ranges available with its mix of black, stainless steel and a blue oven interior.
The induction cooktop is very clever with the ability to link two of the burners and use a provided griddle. It also has a built-in radiant warmer on top as well as the fairly standard warming drawer; great if you have a slow-to-the-table family like mine!
The Electolux has an absolutely huge 6.0 cubic foot oven it you have a large family or just like to cook big meals. On the downside, when customers do complain, it’s often about reliability so check out all the reviews before making the jump on the Electrolux.

To better understand induction cooking, it is necessary to understand what induction is. Induction was discovered in 1831 by the physicist Michael Faraday. If you’re really interested you can follow that link. But without getting too deep into it, induction is the creation of an electric current by the interaction of electromagnetic fields. That’s a little more complicated than “Fire heats the pot”, isn’t it?
This kind of cooking has been rapidly increasing in popularity in recent years. But it was actually invented just over one hundred years after induction was discovered. Models began to become available to American consumers in the 1970’s after NASA began developing the technology, The problem was it remained a loud, expensive, and inefficient novelty for some time. Countries in Europe and Asia that had limited access to natural resources like gas continued to use and develop induction technology. In 2000 materials and electronics breakthroughs combined to advance induction technology. Now it is quiet, energy efficient, and becoming more affordable.
So how does all of that explain how induction cooktops work? Coils beneath the cooking surface generate electromagnetic fields. When these fields come into contact with cookware made of ferrous metals an electric current is generated in the cookware. The end result is that the cookware is heated without the use of fire or electric heat, as is used in older cooking surfaces. Incidentally, cooking with electricity, gas, or wood is formally called “conduction cooking”. This is because the cookware “conducts” heat from the heat source. This is different than induction cooking, which more or less turns the cookware into its own heat source.
Induction science has a great many implications when cooking. Induction cooktops are safer than gas because there’s no open flame (or any gas, which has its downsides even when it isn’t used for cooking). Induction cooktops are also safer than electric stoves, because the pot gets hot, not the stove. This means that the cooking surface cools much faster than regular cooking surfaces once the cookware is removed.
This kind of cooking also heats the cookware more evenly than conduction cooking methods. This is because the cookware doesn’t get significantly hotter at the cooking surface than anywhere else. This even heating of the cookware means that liquids or foods burning to the bottom of the cookware isn’t as much of a problem. There’s also added energy efficiency because of the smaller amounts of electricity required to maintain induction cooking. Also, less heat is lost to the surrounding area as the cookware is heated directly.
We’ve discussed what induction cooking is, but is there such a thing as induction baking? Because of how induction works, it’s used mainly for stove tops right now. Induction ranges typically combine an induction stove top with a convection oven. But at least one company is exploring the creation of an induction oven. Panasonic’s induction oven is scheduled to be available in the U.S and Canada in the near future. The oven needs other technologies (namely infrared) in addition to induction in order to get the job done. And, most serious cooks won’t be too thrilled about the small size of the model, but it’s a step in the right direction. Still, induction enthusiasts may have to keep using their conduction ovens for a while.

The Ozeri Stone Earth Pan is straight out of an induction cooking dream (and yes, I’ve had those!). It has a magnetic base that lets it heat up super fast when used with induction. And, the heavy-gauge aluminum makes it heat evenly throughout. I like the feel of the curved synthetic handle (which won’t burn you). It has a nice triple rivet attachment and feels solid.
Perhaps the best feature is its PFOA-free “Stonehenge” coating. It is both environmentally friendly and is one of the best non-stick surfaces I’ve used. This means less oil when cooking and super easy clean-ups. Finally, it comes in black, brown or gray options and is affordable. There’s nothing I don’t like about this pan. A big gold star for this one!
There is a lot of competition between induction cookware brands and the Cook N Home Frying Pan 3 Piece Set gives the Ozeri a run for its money! These pans also have a solid base that is crafted to evenly distribute heat during cooking. This means no hot spot in the middle! The non-stick coating is lead and cadmium-free and works well. Cleanups are simple and easy.
People either love or hate the color. I think the apple green (some say it’s more neon green) stands out in a kitchen. But it depends on your personal taste and the look of your kitchen. There have been a few complaints about shipping damage with these pans. So make sure you check them when you get them and make sure they’re in pristine condition. This is a nice pan for the money.
If you’re looking for a high-quality induction cookware set that will last, the Stoneline 8 Piece Set is the one for you. It’s not exactly inexpensive but deals can be had for under $200. Next up is the Cuisinart MCP-12N Set. Talk about a mouthful! What can I say? It’s Cuisinart so you know the quality is going to be excellent though you’ll pay a bit more for it. The real difference though is the stainless steel construction around an aluminum core. So these aren’t going to be quite as easy to clean but they will last forever with decent care.
Its brushed steel exterior is just gorgeous and lets people know you’re a serious cook. The aluminum core helps to ensure even cooking. Finally, the set has lots of nice details like easy-pour lids and tight-fitting lids. If you’re willing to spend a little more time on cleaning in return for longevity and the stunning look of stainless steel, this is the set for you.
Finally, we have the Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 10 Piece Cookware Set. If you’re a fan of Rachel’s like me, you won’t be surprise at the nice combination of quality with a perky, bright look.
This set is reasonably priced and is hard-anodized aluminum with a safe PFOA free non-stick surface that customers rave about. The looks is distinctive in charcoal gray with orange handles. The colors work surprisingly well in many different settings. They’re a bit lighter than some of the other sets out there. If you prefer lightweight to heft then this might be the set for you.

A bad cooktop can be a real eyesore, heat up the entire kitchen, take forever to heat and can be a real pain to clean. And, if you don’t enjoy cooking there’s a good chance you’ll eat out more, grab quick snacks and generally not eat as well.
Well, the good news is that new induction technology removes practically all of these issues. They’re attractive, heat up in a jiffy without heating the entire kitchen and are a snap to clean. If you’re new to induction cooking, read here for more information. The quick version is that induction uses electromagnetic fields to heat up the cookware itself when it comes in contact with the cooktop. This technology has been around in Europe for quite a while but has rapidly been gaining popularity in the U.S. as prices have come down and more and more great options have hit the market in the last few years. In fact, most higher-end ranges now combine convection ovens with induction burners.
Overall, I’m definitely a fan of induction cooking but you have to decide if it’s right for you. In the pro columns, induction cooking is very energy efficient with more heat going into the cookware rather than into the kitchen (no roasting hot kitchens, yay!). These cooktops work incredibly fast; you can boil a cup or two of water in less than 2 minutes. They also cool down fast, making them safer and making clean-up much easier. Finally, the heat is nice and even; no more burn spots in the middle of the pan.
On the negative side, induction cooking is still more expensive than standard electric though prices are dropping quickly. I discuss several options below – including portable units – that are quite affordable. Also, induction cookware works with magnetic fields which means your cookware has to be magnetic. If you’re looking for the full induction cooking experience but already have a great range, an induction cooktop may be just what you’re looking for. This is a drop-in unit that is permanently mounted on your countertop, just like a standard electric or gas cooktop.
These usually have 4 or 5 burners of various sizes. They have all of the features of induction cooktops found on top of high-end ranges. These units are quite a bit more expensive than electric cooktops with most brands in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, though there are some less expensive 2 and 3 burner units. Full cooktops may require an electric power upgrade to 240V if you don’t have it so make sure you add that into your budget.
If you’re looking for a full range upgrade and want the latest and greatest technology, then an induction range is right for you. The term “induction range” is actually a little confusing. There aren’t any induction ovens yet, so what this really means is an induction cooktop on top of a convection oven. You get the fast, even cooking of both types of cooking in one appliance; it’s a real win-win!

Frigidaire has been in the appliance business for nearly as long as GE. In fact, it lays claim to developing the first self-contained refrigerator in 1918. The company has a strong history of quality, functional appliances at a very reasonable price. If you’re looking to try induction without breaking the bank, this may be the brand for you. Frigidaire has been owned by Electrolux since 1986.
Electrolux may be less well known in the US than GE or Frigidaire because it’s Swedish based. But don’t let that scare you away. It’s a global appliance company that’s been in business since the early 1900s. Like the others, it has a reputation for quality and service plus a very distinctive European styling.
Like Electrolux, Bosch is a great brand that isn’t quite as well known in the U.S. Bosch is actually a huge German multi-national company that develops all kinds of cutting edge technology, kind of similar to GE. It has developed a reputation for high-end, stylish products and great customer service. Think Mercedes-Benz of appliances!

I’m a big fan of GE appliances. In my experience, GE just makes a solid product all-around with all the features you need and exceptional reliability. This cooktop is no exception.
GE’s Cafe line is “restaurant-inspired” which means it’s meant for serious cooks. This is clear from the quality, construction and solid, professional look. It also costs a bit more than many other brands and GE’s own Profile line but the difference isn’t huge.
It has 5 burners ranging in size from 6” to 11”. The largest burner provides 3700W which is plenty for most needs. The two 7” burners can be used together with a custom griddle option. This cooktop is loaded with other great options too. It has different timers for each burner and a lockout option to keep you and your kids safe.
The look of this cooktop is very professional and one of the most attractive on the market. The dark gray is actually smooth but has a beveled appearance under the surface. Customer really like the glide-touch blue LED controls. They definitely pop from the grey background.
Overall, this is one of the most highly rated offerings on the market. It costs a bit more but has a great mix of brand, quality, features and a classy look.
Many people don’t know that the Swedish company Electrolux is the second largest appliance maker in the world. Electrolux has been around for nearly 100 years and is really making a name for itself in induction cooking. It has several cooktop offerings and this one has the highest customer ratings.
Like most 36” models, the Electrolux has 5 burners. These include one 6”, one 7”, two 8” and a dual 7”/11” element. The dual element is a really nice feature that adjusts the burner to the size of your cookware. No need to use extra energy heating an 11” element if the 7” will do.
The Electrolux is also incredibly powerful. The 11” burner generates a huge 4,800W of power. This is the most powerful I have seen and will really cut down on cooking time.
Electrolux cooktops also have a distinct look with light cross marking for the burners. Customers rave about the precision control. They really like the blue LED lights and ease of adjusting temperatures. In fact, customers rave about the whole product. It has one of the highest cooktop ratings on Amazon.
If you’ve got your mind set on an upgrade to this great new technology but don’t want to break the bank, then the Frigidaire may be just the model for you. At 30” wide, it’s a bit smaller than some of our other top picks that come in at 36”. And it has only 4 burners instead of the 5 found on larger models. But, really, how often do you use all 5 burners at the same time?
The cooktop has 6”, 7”, 8” and 10” burners to cover just about any need. It also has a handy power boost option for when you want to heat up food fast.
The Frigidaire lines are clean and simple with white accents and control on a high-gloss black surface. Some customers complain that it’s too shiny so any fingerprints or other marks really show but this is true for most ceramic-glass cooktops. The burners have cross-shaped markings rather than circular outlines for a different look. Some like it; some don’t. It’s really a matter of taste.
Overall, the Frigidaire brand has been around for decades and has a good reputation for reliability and affordability. In fact, the price is hard to beat, coming in several hundred dollars less than most competitors. The Frigidaire cooktop is definitely worth a look with its blend of brand, customer satisfaction and functionality.
GE’s entire Profile series has a distinctive appearance with clean, simple lines that add an understated classy look. Plus, if you already have GE appliances in your kitchen, it mixes and matches very well. This model is a lovely stainless steel on black with a stainless steel frame.
It has 5 burners varying in power from a small 6” 1800W burner to a massive 11” 3700W burner that’s as powerful as anything on the market. Check the base of your pots though. Some customers have complained that the 11” is too big because if the base doesn’t contact the entire hob, the induction doesn’t work. Personally, I think an 11” is perfect for those large pots of pasta or soup but you be the judge.
The two 7” burners also have a Sync-Burner function where they can be “linked” for use with a griddle. This is definitely a nice feature, but some customer have complained that the heating is a bit uneven in this mode.
The controls have a nice definite feel and are located front and center for ease of use. It can take a bit of getting used to having the controls so close to the burners but they just don’t heat up the same way as gas or electric. Of course, the GE cooktop has all the bells and whistles too like hot burner indicators, an auto-shut-off if no pan is present and cooktop lockout to prevent the kids (or anyone else) from accidentally turning on the burners.
Pricewise, this model is quite reasonable as far as induction offerings go. With its mix of looks, functionality, GE reputation and price, it’s definitely worth checking out!
The Bosch brand is just plain classy with a reputation for high-end performance. The downside is price. You usually pay a premium for this brand. But that price tag isn’t overly steep in this cooktop making it worth a look.
Like the Frigidaire, this is a smaller 30” unit with 4 burners. The burners include two 6” elements, a 9” and an 11”. The 11” has a whopping 3600W capacity in power boost. This is guaranteed to get that big pot of water boiling really fast! In fact, this is most powerful 30” model I’ve found. So, if you’re looking for big performance in a compact package, this is the model for you.
In my opinion, the Bosch look just can’t be beat. The black burner circles on dark gray are understated but very classy. It has that Mercedes sedan kind of feel.
Finally, the Bosch cooktop is packed with features. The PotSense feature automatically sizes the element to the size of your cookware. Bosch’s Childlock function ensures controls aren’t turned on by accident. And, the SafeStart feature won’t allow the burner to turn on unless the right cookware is in place.
Overall, you will pay a premium for Bosch. But if you want class, performance and loads of features, this may be the model for you.
The True Induction is a great compromise if you can’t decide between a single-burner portable and a full-sized cooktop with 4 or 5 burners. It has 2 burners and up to 1800W of power, ideal for smaller kitchens or RVs.
This Electrolux model has many of the features of the larger 36” model we reviewed above in a more compact package. This price savings can be significant if you’re willing to give up one burner. And, of course, you still get that distinctive Electrolux styling.
Like the S2F3, this True Induction TI-3B is a great compromise, this time with 3 burners. With a rating of 3,400W, it’s getting pretty close to the full sized cooktops and is considerably more powerful than the S2F3.
This model has all of the great features of the 36” GE Profile we reviewed above in a more compact space. The only major difference is 4 burners instead of 5 though you still get the synched burners and 11” 3700W big burner. You’ll also save a couple of hundred dollars.
This model has all of the higher-end sophistication and functionality found throughout GE’s Cafe line of appliances. The main differences are one fewer burners and a cost savings of $200-300.
While induction cooktops all perform many of the same basic functions, they come in a variety of size, shapes, looks and options. I’ve listed out several of the key features to keep in mind when you go shopping:
Appearance: Let’s face it; your cooktop is a real centerpiece of your kitchen. It’s got to match what you already have and it’s got to look good. The base cooktops come in black or stainless steel/gray. All have a smooth surface but a few have a textured appearance under the glass. The look of the burners range from circles to crosses while the colors of controls and LED lights can be red, white or blue.
Size: Built-in units mostly come in either 30” or 36” widths though there are units as small as 23.25" depending on your space and needs. If you’re replacing an existing cooktop, the size of the opening might drive your purchase decision.
Burners: Most 30” cooktops come with 4 burners while most 36” cooktops come with 5. But, the layout can vary a lot. Some have the largest burner in the back while others put it up front. So make sure to check if that specific cooktop layout works for you. There are also a few smaller units with 2 or 3 burners.
Power: Each burner is rated for watts. If the cooktop has a powerboost option it will have a rating for regular and powerboost options. If you regularly boil big pots of water, you’ll want a large burner rated to at least 3600W.
Price: Induction cooktops are still more expensive than electric and most gas cooktops but the range is pretty large. The smallest 2-3 burner built-in units can be found for less than $500. Basic 30” cooktops currently cost $1000-$1500. Larger, premium models generally cost $1500-2000 and up.
It can be overwhelming trying to choose the best induction cooktop for all the choices available. I strongly recommend reading customer reviews and avoiding the bad ones. In the end, it’s really about doing some fun research and deciding what’s most important for you. After all, there isn’t any “right” cooktop. There’s just the right cooktop for you needs.
