What Does It Mean To Age Gracefully?
Sometimes you can’t help but look in the mirror and see all the signs of aging. We often don’t realize that aging is not necessarily a bad thing. Some of us are lucky enough to age. But what does it mean to “age well”? Here are some ways to check if you are aging. What does it mean to age gracefully?
In our opinion, aging well means maintaining healthy systems during maturation. Many factors can contribute to aging gracefully, including: exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, get plenty of rest, know when to see a hearing specialist and minimize stress levels.
Frankly, many of these goals can be difficult to achieve, but if you can maintain them, your body, especially your skin, will show signs of your success. Your body will tell you when you are mature.
Signs You Are Aging Well
1. Fewer wrinkles
Fewer wrinkles are one of the most obvious signs of aging. We automatically equate wrinkles with age, and for good reason. As we age, we naturally lose elastin and collagen, the substances that give our skin its elasticity and youthful appearance. Combine that with spending years in the sun and drying your skin with hot showers.
And wrinkles are almost impossible to avoid. However, some people, simply by being lucky or taking the necessary precautions, can avoid wrinkled faces by aging well.
2. Acne heals faster
We usually think of acne as a problem that only teens face, but adults suffer from acne just like their teens. However, the older you get, the more difficult it becomes to treat pimples. If you end up with acne and it heals with little or no scarring, congratulations! You are aging well.
3. You have minimal hair loss
We all know that hair loss increases with age. But what if we say it’s not? The natural aging process does not cause hair loss. There are many other factors that contribute to hair loss, including genetics, stress, improper hair care, and disease, but aging slows hair growth.
However, as you age, hair growth does not slow down as quickly and you are less likely to experience thinning or hair loss.
4. No sunspots
Sunspots are another sign of age. Sunspots are brown spots that are caused by the sun’s harmful UV rays and usually appear on the face, hands, arms, and neck.
Although sunspots can develop from a very young age (think freckles from sun damage), continued and unprotected sun exposure can lead to more and more permanent-looking sunspots over time. there is no doubt. But as we age, we have little or no black spots and generally healthier, more even skin.
5. Keep your skin moisturized
Remember when we talked about the age-related loss of collagen and elastin? Yes, so is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that hydrates and moisturizes the eyes, joints, and skin. As you get older, this substance breaks down, making your joints sore and your skin and eyes dry. If you don’t fight dryness, you’re probably aging well.
Unless you’re one of the lucky few who are aging well, don’t panic. A visit to your dermatologist may be what you need to turn back time.
