I like to make myself a smoothie every morning for breakfast.  Of course, sometimes life gets in the way.  When I'm in a hurry, or traveling and I don’t have my blender.  That is when I grab one of my favorite protein shakes and I don’t miss a beat.

Ready to drink shakes are convenient, and they are a great option if you are looking to replace meals or unhealthy snacks with something better.

Protein shakes are great if you are trying to add some muscle and working hard in the gym trying to bulk up, but what about if you are trying to lose weight?

It is true that protein is great for promoting muscles.  While you might not want to get bigger, you should know that lean muscle mass can help you burn more calories throughout your day.

Even if you have zero interest in your muscles, protein helps fill you up and keep you from loading up on empty and unsatisfying calories.  That have you looking in the fridge an hour later.

What sets the best protein shake for weight loss apart from rest?

I like to look for something with at least 15 grams of protein per serving.  I aim even higher with at least 20-25 grams of protein if I am currently on a weight lifting program.

Now protein is the most important nutritional component, but you also want to make sure there isn’t too much sugar.  I also like something with some fat and fiber to help keep me feeling full longer.

Calories are also something I look at. Mostly just to decide if a shake is a meal replacement, or if it is a snack between meals, to keep me from eating something I will regret.

I have to say the best thing about this shake is the taste. It is like drinking chocolate milk!

Conclusion

If you have decided to give one of these cleanses a try I do recommend you make sure to drink a lot of water while detoxing.

 Actually, I recommend drinking more water in general.  However, when you are on a cleanse like this you will lose a lot of water.  If you don’t drink enough to replace it, you will end up dehydrated. 

As a general rule drink 1.5 ounces per pound of your body weight. This works out to about 2 liters or half a gallon for the average person.

Remember that these products are for occasional use only.  It is normal for at least some of the weight you lose to return when you have completed your cleanse.

Isagenix is a popular cleansing and fat burning system. It involves taking supplements, drinking shakes and juices, while eating healthy meals and snacks.

The shakes and snacks are available in a variety of flavors.

This program is available in both a 9 day and 30-day options.  I recommend the 9-day program to start.  At least that is what I decided to try. Better to start out small and see if you like it, before going with the much more expensive commitment to the 30-day plan.

Let’s get started with my 9 day Isagenix cleanse review.

Criteria

When evaluating any cleanse these are the top 3 factors I look at:

  • Most important to me is the results.  Did it work?  How much weight did I lose?  How do I feel afterward?   Were there any side effects? 
  • How hard was the program? Did I hate my life the whole time? 
  • Was it worth the cost? I don’t mind paying a high price for something as long as I am getting a good value for my money.

The shake mix is available in 4 different flavors.  These include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and black sesame.  They are soy and gluten free, which is nice if that is something you need to avoid.

The Isagenix 9 day cleanse starts with a 2 day prepping period, so in total it lasts 11 days.

On shake days, you replace 2 of your meals with shakes.  Then have a healthy, high-fiber, low-fat lunch that is between 400 and 600 calories. They provide you with a helpful chart showing a number of meal options, in case your not sure what that looks like. You can also have between 3 and 6 snacks on these days depending on their size. (3 at 100 calories, or 6 at 50 calories each)

Again, they provide a helpful list of snack options you can eat, or you can stick to the snack wafers.

There are 2 cleanse days where you don’t have any meals or shakes.  You only drink the cleansing juice, but you do also get to have snacks on the cleanse days.  So your not going to starve.

Pro and Cons

I went with the creamy Dutch chocolate flavor and it was very chocolaty.  I made the shakes in my blender with ice and some water and they were pretty good.

One thing I want to say is that I’m not sure I would call this a cleanse.  To me, it is more of a meal replacement/weight loss plan, with a little cleansing added in.

I'm not saying that is a good or bad thing; it just depends on what you are looking for.

I liked that you could eat real food on this program.  As long as you follow their guidelines and keep within the 400-600 calorie range.  I always had a shake for breakfast, and then for lunch or dinner, depending on my schedule that day.

I also liked the flexibility of eating the wafers as snacks when it was more convenient than finding other healthy snacks.  Sometimes I’m lazy and it is a good idea to have a snack right at my fingertips to avoid eating something I'll regret later.

I managed to lose 9 pounds over the 11 days and felt pretty good the whole time.

Even on the cleanse days I wasn’t starving, which was great. You get to have regular snacks, which help keep you from crashing.

I did not experience any side effects, which is always a good thing. I'm not sure I would want to try the 30 day plan, but I liked the isagenix 9 day cleanse. It wasn’t nearly as hard to stick to as other cleanses where you are only drinking juice all day.

If you are looking for more of a health cleanse, and not as concerned about losing weight, then there might be other better options for your goals.

You could probably make your own protein shakes and save a little money, but this was a pretty convenient and easy program to follow.

Conclusion

I have to say as far as cleanses go, this was a pretty good experience, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to lose a few pounds.

This is great for first time cleansers, or people with limited detoxing experience. It tastes great, is conveniently packaged, and you should still be getting enough calories that you won’t crash.

The juice is all natural and cold pressed to preserve nutrients and healthy enzymes.

The package will arrive frozen, so make sure to put it in your freezer if you do not intend to drink it within 3 days of arrival.

2. Believer Cleanse - Juice from the RAW 3 Day ORGANIC Juice Cleanse

This is similar to RAW’s Whenever Cleanse.  It is another juice cleanse, the only difference is the types of juice included.

So really it depends on how you feel about green juice compared to beet juice.  I am okay with either, but if you hate one of them you may want to choose accordingly.

Again, the juice is cold pressed and all organic to ensure you are getting the best juice for your cleanse.

This cleanse is not bad for beginners, but some people do struggle with the green juice if they are new to the experience.

3. Brigitte's Naturally Kale Power 3-Day Cleanse, Green Smoothies for Detox

This is the first non-juice cleanse to make an appearance in the top 5.  Some people may prefer these to all juice cleanses.  They can seem a little closer to eating real food that just drinking juice.

On this plan, you drink a smoothie for breakfast and lunch. Then cook yourself a healthy dinner each day.

This is a really good option for beginners who are concerned about the lack of solid food on a more traditional all-liquid cleanse.

It does involve a little more planning and preparation, but the trade off is you get to have some solid food each day.

These actually taste pretty good for green juice.  However, if you have a serious hate for greens that is something to take into consideration.

4. Kaeng Raeng Natural Detox Cleanse

This comes in a package that you have to mix either with water, juice or into a smoothie.  I like that it gives you some flexibility if you don’t want to drink the same type of beverage all the time.

They come in 3 flavors, and you just mix up 3 drinks per day.  You are also permitted raw fruit and vegetables on this program.

One thing I don’t like about this product is the price.  This is the most expensive option to make my list. If you’re a beginner I would recommend going with one of the less pricey options.

5. Forever Cleanse - Juice from the RAW 3 Day ORGANIC Juice Cleanse

As you can see RAW has a pretty strong showing, taking 3 of the top 5.  They really do have great products.  What can I say?  I love my cold pressed organic juice.

This is their most advanced program.  Like the others, you drink 2 bottles a day for the 3 days.  It includes 2 sweet greens and 2 detox greens.  There is also spicy lemonade and a coconut drink in between the greens to round things out.

This cleanse is for people with a little more experience, and I wouldn’t start with this if you are a beginner.

Conclusion

My Blueprint Juice Cleanse Review – Expectations And Results

The Blueprint cleanse is a popular juice cleanse, with a lot of different options.

The program can be from 1 to 6 days in length, and is available in 5 different strengths.

Each level has a fancy name:

  • Invigorate for introduction level
  • Renovation for Beginner
  • Foundation is Intermediate
  • Excavation is Expert
  • Inspiration, classified as intense

Basically, you choose the number of days based on how long you want to cleanse for.  Choose your strength based on what type of cleanse you are looking for, from introductory to intense.

I decided to go with a 3 day Renovations cleanse option this time. Not too long, not too short.

Okay, enough details, let's get into my blueprint cleanse review.

Criteria

When evaluating a juice cleanse I like to keep the following 3 things in mind:

Most important to me is the results.  How much weight did I lose?  How do I feel afterward?  Were there any side effects?

How hard was the program?  

Was it worth the cost?  I have no problem paying a high price for something as long as I am getting good value in return.

Product Overview

Blueprint-Juice-Lime-Ginger-Lemon-Agave

The Blueprint cleanse is a 1-6 day cleanse. It comes in 6 different strengths or levels.  The biggest difference from level to level is the number of green drinks included.

To give you an idea the Invigorate level has 1 green drink per day.  At the other end of the spectrum, the Inspiration level has 4 green drinks.

The introductory Invigorate and intense Inspiration cleanses are only available for 1-3 days.   All the other levels can be purchased in a 1-6 day package.

All the packages are available for sale online from Blueprint.  

You can also buy 6 packs of individual flavors from Amazon. This is a good option if you want to taste the juice before committing to a longer cleanse program. Or if you want to buy more of your favorite after a cleanse.

Pros and Cons

Blueprint suggests a 3 day prep period before starting the cleanse.  Kind of a pre-cleanse before the main event.

My only issue with this was the lack of details on how to go about it. There was only a vague mention of eating fruit and raw vegetables. I would have liked a little more guidance in this area.

For the main event, I was to drink 6 bottles of juice a day for the 3-day duration of the program.

The first bottle of the day was a green juice. It tasted very green, not very good at all. I may not have enjoyed it, but I was able to drink it all without too much trouble.

The second was Pineapple/apple/mint, which was way better. I actually liked the minty tangy taste.

Up next was another green bottle, still not my favorite.  Followed by a bottle of spicy lemonade. Not too bad, but not as good as the PAM Juice.

The next bottle was a carrot/apple/beet mix. It wasn’t terrible but it definitely had a noticeable earthy vibe to it.  I would say it was ok overall.

Finally, the last bottle was cashew/vanilla/cinnamon. I liked this almost as much as the PAM Juice. A nice creamy flavor.

Overall the taste was decent.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the green drinks, but the other ones were pretty good.

You might want to take this into consideration when deciding which strength to try. The higher the level the more green juice you have to drink.

Over the course of the program, I lost 6 pounds, which is pretty good for that period of time.

The downside is that I gained half of that back within the first week after the cleanse.

These results seem to be fairly typical, from what I have heard from other people.

While on the cleanse I did feel healthy, and I had lots of energy. I did not experience any side effects at all.

In terms of hunger, I found the pre-cleanse much harder than the cleanse itself.

Conclusion

Overall I don’t think I can give this cleanse the thumbs up.

I felt good while on it and lost some weight. However, I quickly gained it back again afterward.

Take a look at some other blueprint cleanse reviews. I think you will see that most people tend to agree with my assessment.

It is a good way try out juice cleansing, but considering the cost, and the mixed results, I think there are better options out there.

Searching For The Best Tasting Detox Cleanse Recipes

There are plenty of good options on the market.  Buying a cleanse or detox can be a convenient and easy way to get things moving in the right direction.

Simply open a bottle, or mix up a shake and you're ready to go. What could be better?

Well, how about making your own detox drink right in your kitchen?  You can save a lot of money and it's not much more difficult that using a shake mix. Now I am all for investing in your health. But if I can make something that tastes even better, and I get to keep more of my hard-earned money at the same time. For me, that's a win-win situation.

There are plenty of cleanse detox recipes out there, but not all created equal.  That’s why I spent some time tracking down the best tasting ones to share with you.

What Type of Cleanse Should You Do?

Let's face it, there are a ton of options out there.  There is juice cleanses, smoothie cleanses , weight loss cleanses, and even food cleanses.

Then there are cleanses that focus on a specific part of your body, like a liver or colon, cleanse.

Any of these could be a good option for you depending on your goals.  If you are just starting out with detoxing I recommend you start with a mild general body cleanse.

It is a good way to try out cleansing, and see how it works for you.

So what does that look like?

I would start the day off with a juice, and then a smoothie for lunch, followed by a healthy clean eating dinner. If you want to step things up a level you could also take some liver or colon supplement sin the morning as well. This more of a suggestion for people who have done a detox before and know what it is all about.

If you follow this plan, you could easily do a 3-7 day cleanse and see some good results.

On to the detox cleanse recipes.

The Recipes

Breakfast

Morning Cleansing Juice-Sweet Coalescence

  • ​1 green apple (cored)
  • 1 large handful of strawberries (you can use any berries you like)
  • 1 lemon (rind removed)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 inch small piece of ginger root
  • Put everything in your juicer.
  • Dilute with water and you should end up with a 16-ounce glass.

Apples are a great source of fiber, and potassium, as well as vitamins A and C.  Fresh berries are an excellent source of vitamin A, B-complex, C, and E, as well as health promoting antioxidants.  Lemon is a good source of vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium, and is a known detoxifier.  Ginger helps with inflammation and stimulates digestion.

Beet Apple and Blackberry Juice

  • 3 small beets
  • 2-3 apples (cored)
  • 8 oz. blackberries
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger
  • Put everything in your juicer and you are good to go.

Beets are full of folate, potassium, iron, and vitamin C.

Ultimate Green Juice

This one is a little more intense, but it is a great option if you are looking for a green juice to try.

  • 1 bunch celery
  • 4-5 kale leaves
  • 1 green apple (cored)
  • 1 big handful of flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 1 lime
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger
  • Again just throw everything in your juicer and go.

Celery is loaded with potassium, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, and amino acids.

Lunch

Blueberry Smoothie

Best-detox-recipes
  • 1 c skim milk
  • 1 c frozen unsweetened blueberries
  • 1 Tbsp cold-pressed organic flaxseed oil
  • Blend the milk and berries together until nice and smooth.
  • Then stir in the flaxseed oil for a dose of healthy fats to keep you full.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

This one is my favorite, I LOVE peanut butter.

  • ½ c fat-free milk
  • ½ c fat-free plain yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp creamy natural unsalted peanut butter
  • ¼ very ripe banana
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 4 ice cubes
  • ​Blend until smooth

Bananas are a good source of potassium, and the peanut butter adds some healthy fat, and a little fiber to keep you full longer.

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie

  • ½ c skim or soy milk
  • 6 oz (80-calorie) vanilla yogurt
  • ¼ c chocolate chips
  • 1 c fresh raspberries
  • One handful of ice OR 1 cup frozen raspberries

Raspberries are a good source of vitamin C, and they are high in fiber.

The key to good weight loss cleanse recipes is healthy amounts of protein and fiber.  This will keep you full longer between meals.  These recipes won’t let you down.

Dinner

For dinner, I recommend you eat a nice green salad with some form of protein, like chicken or fish. You can also have some more fruit or other vegetables as well.

Final Thoughts

Although I listed these as breakfast and lunch options, you can mix and match as you want. You can also experiment with different berries or other ingredients. See if you find a new combination you like even better.

A whole body cleanse is a pretty simple in concept.  They can be of any of the types discussed above, and they are designed to detox the whole body. Not focussing on any specific area or organ.

Unless you have a specific issue, I think it is best to start with a whole body cleanse. They are generally a mild option and I find they are often the best weight loss detox.

Liver Cleanse

As opposed to a body cleanse, a liver cleanse specifically targets one organ, the liver. The liver handles removing toxins from your blood and digestive system. If your diet isn’t so great, or you have been the life of the party for too long, it can make it hard for your liver to do its job.

That’s why I like to do a liver cleanse every year or so. It is one of the milder detoxes in terms of side effects, and it is easy to do.

Colon Cleanse

On to something that isn’t quite so mild! The colon cleanse is designed to literally clean you out.

Who should try a colon cleanse? Symptoms generally can include some weight gain, fatigue, low energy, and bloating or frequent digestion problems. Like I said it isn’t as mild at the liver cleanse, and you will be spending some quality time in the bathroom.

It might not sound like a ton of fun, but I do a colon cleanse once a year, and for me, the process is definitely worth it.

The detox always helps me lose weight and feel healthier afterward.

Okay now that you have an idea of the different types of detoxes and cleanses out there, let's talk about another key decision. The length of the cleanse.

3 Day Cleanses

3 day cleanses can be of any type, but the most popular tend to be juice, smoothie or colon cleanses.

Due to the short duration, 3 day cleanses are sometimes more extreme. They're trying to ensure you get a good enough result in that short period of time. If you are new to detoxing, it can be a difficult 3 days. There are some programs, that aren’t as bad. Just be sure you know what you are getting into before you start something you might regret.

7 Day Cleanses

The most popular 7-day cleanses tend to be juice, smoothie or supplement based. The day-to-day experience is usually milder than a 3-day cleanse, but of course, you need to follow the plan for a week.

There are even longer cleanses, lasting 2 weeks, 21 days or even a month! These tend to be liver cleanses or food detoxes for the most part. I’m not a huge fan of the really long ones. I know I wouldn’t make it drinking only juice or smoothies for that long.

The Purium Cleanse is one of the most popular cleanses on the market right now. It’s a very good choice if you are looking to loose weight.

This cleanse comes with a lot of stuff!

I opened the box and found the following:

  • A big tub of the Power Shake
  • A bottle of Super Aminos pills
  • A bottle of Super Lytes pills
  • A bottle of Super CleansR pills
  • A glass bottle of Apothe-Cherry juice
  • A Purium shaker bottle
  • A Purium tape measure
  • A nylon Purium bag
  • There is an instruction card that explains the daily schedule of shakes and pills.

While on the program you take the pills and drink the shake mix as directed.  You also eat what they call “flex foods”.  These are to be a fruit or vegetable like an avocado or an organic apple. The serving size is always to be less than 1 cup.

They recommend cutting out alcohol, caffeine, gluten, dairy, and sugar a few days before starting the cleanse.

I can’t say the shake mix tasted awesome, but it wasn’t terrible either.

The side effects are common with most cleanses. Some people complain of stomach cramps, headaches, and of course frequent bathroom trips.

My biggest suggestion is to drink a lot of water to help your body detox, and avoid dehydration.

Overall I would recommend this cleanse to anyone looking to kick-start their weight loss. It is a little higher in price, but the results are very good, and make it worth the cost in my opinion.

I lost 8 pounds over the 10 days, which is great in that short of a timeframe.  Days 2 and 3 were a little rough, but the results, in the end, speak for themselves.

Side effects can include stomach cramps.  Again, I can’t stress the importance of drinking water enough here.

If you find you are running to the toilet more than 3-4 times a day it is possible that this is a little too strong for you. I recommend you listen to your body and reduce the dosage a bit to see if things improve.

I didn’t enjoy swallowing all those pills, but I can’t say it didn’t work.  You will find yourself running to the bathroom 2-3 times per day on this cleanse.
